Dominion Homes Problems - Documentation of my opinions about ongoing problems with my Dominion Homes built home.

Block work and mortar

Dominion Homes messed up the bricks on the fireplace so we had them redo it.

Then they messed up again!!!

The third time was a charm and they finally got it looking right...Seriously?  Three times?

Dominion Homes also thought that this dark brick in the middle of all of these light bricks looked normal.  Yes we had to have them fix this too.

Dominion Homes really banged up the bricks while installing them.  We thought the striking red was a little to much of a contrast for our tastes.  We had them fix this too.

We did not like the way Dominion Homes installed these bricks looked either (in the model this is a single brick of the right color).  They eventually fixed this.

Here is the fireplace Dominion Homes had in the Pennington model we looked at

Here is the fireplace we ended up with.  It was supposed to be a natural fireplace and instead we got gas fireplace with a black box.  Dominion Homes would not change this even though we had originally requested the natural fireplace.

We wondered if Dominion Homes thought that installing uneven bricks was a feature?

We did get them to correct this.  Eventually.

We found that Dominion Homes had installed a block next to the I-beam in the basement incorrectly.

When we got up close to the block that Dominion Homes had replaced we realized we could see through to the outside!  That will do wonders for your heating/cooling!  We did finally get Dominion Homes to fix this correctly.

More broken blocks we needed to get Dominion Homes to fix.

Dominion Homes whined like child when we had asked them to make a change to the plans at one point.  They complained about how the plans were already drawn and approved by the county and how they would be really expensive to replace since the field crew already had them...

Then we went out to the house and could see they had put our garage on facing the wrong direction.  It turns out the field crew did not have "our" plans, just a generic set from Dominion Homes.  So much for all that effort to make sure the plans were correct.

Dominion Homes put our garage on sideways

The Dominion Homes brick layers took a lot of time making sure their craft was perfectly executed.  Not.

Some of the broken blocks they used appeared to just have been thrown together.  We did get these problems fixed, but why should have we had to do that in the first place?
